Candler Hills (352-861-9712) Tee Times Start at 9 am on Thursdays OTOW (352-854-8430) 9am Shotgun on Tuesdays
The Ladies’ 9-hole Play Day is an organized group of ladies who play at the same time as the 18-hole league on either course: Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. at the OTOW courses and Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at the Candler Hills course.
The group is scheduled by the respective clubhouse pros and has many of the same characteristics as the 18-hole league but is more informal and takes less time. The 9-hole Play Day is perfect for ladies who:
Are still learning the game
Have health issues that restrict their game
Have time constraints (some 18-holers play with the 9-holers)
Enjoy a more casual game
The groups are made up of ladies with handicaps from somewhat low to very high. The different types of games are meant to give everybody a chance to have fun and not feel pressured. The games are similar to those played by the 18-hole league and can be viewed on this website under the League Schedule Tab.
Ladies must have an established handicap in the USGA GHIN system to join the 9-holers. To learn more about handicaps, contact either pro shop. Each Play Day you pay $5.00, in addition to any fees for golf if you are not a member at the respective course.
Prior to play day, ladies are notified of their team, the game for the day, where to meet, and other helpful information.
On play day, ladies meet at the white flags at OTOW around 8:30 a.m. or at Candler hole 10 tee box at their designated tee time (between 9:00 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. usually), unless otherwise posted. If there are any rule questions that come up during play, the pros are ready to respond to a phone call during golf or to discuss after golf.
On most days, you are finished by 11:30 a.m. After golf, many ladies like to get together for lunch to discuss, celebrate and often laugh about the day. Winners of the games are posted in an app on the phone called Golf Genius.
Some women join the 9-holers and then switch to the 18-hole league, but this is not expected. It really depends on you and how you want to play the game.
To join, contact the pro shop at the course(s) you would like to play. Once you have a handicap, you can begin to play golf with the group, usually the next play day. It is all about friendship, laughter and getting outside to enjoy life. Hope to see you soon.
